sunshine blogger award

Last week, I was nominated by The Happiest Pixel for a Sunshine Blogger Award! One of my favorite things about writing a blog is the amazing online community that comes with it. Whether it’s people I follow here or through places like Instagram, it’s honestly such a joy to connect with people who pursue their passions–whether it’s their full-time job or a fulfilling side hustle.

The rules

  • Thank the person(s) who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo on your post and/or on your blog

The Questions

If you could go back in time, what would you change?

I wouldn’t change anything! I think that everything does happen for a reason, and trying not to live without regrets is something I strive to do. There are some little things, like wishing I was better about not smashing my iPhone, but every problem has a solution.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Teaching, cooking, or writing. Maybe living abroad.

What is the thing you love to do the most?

Visit a new place.

If you had to leave your home and move somewhere else, where would you go?

Back to Amsterdam.

What is your favourite movie of all times?

Love Actually.

What is your dream job?

Owner of a greeting card shop.

If you were to go on a desert island and you could only bring one food with you, what would that be?

Chocolate.

Do you listen to music when you write your posts?

Occasionally. I currently have re-runs of The Office going on in the background right now.

What do you like to do on the weekends?

Go to brunch, visit someplace on my bucket list in NYC, and write.

Do you blog everyday?

I wish I did!

Name one person you are extremely thankful for and without whom, you wouldn’t be where you are today.

Very thankful for my mom, all day every day.

  1. What inspired the name of your blog?

1. John Slattery

This obsession started with Mad Men (scroll back far enough on my Instagram and you’ll see several photoshopped pics of me & Mr. Slattery at red carpet events xo). But, like, really…dapper AF.

10 reasons why tyra banks is the og role model

During middle school and some of high school, my after school ritual was going home to watch The Tyra Show. It was on every day at 4pm, and I’d watch it on the couch while doing tedious homework and eating popcorn. This show was a blessing–we never had anything besides basic cable, and this was one of the non-primetime shows I actually enjoyed. Tyra taught me more about confidence and career than anyone else did in my early teens. Here is why she’s a pioneer role model–and someone else who doesn’t get enough credit.

1. First of all, she invented the smize.

2. She hosted a reality show for TWENTY TWO seasons. Like, before America was even obsessed with reality television.

3. She won two Daytime Emmy awards for Outstanding Talk Show, Informative. And boy, was it informative.

4. She does it all–the girl can act, model, sing, and write.

5. Tyra founded her own production company.

6. She completed a management program at Harvard Business School, and was a guest lecturer at Stanford. Oh, s-nap.

7. One of her most impressive feats is the TZONE program, which Banks launched to empower young women to be leaders. She also created a scholarship fund at her Catholic high school.

8. She’s been an advocate for body positivity before it was trendy.

9. Tyra talked openly on her show about walking away from abusive relationships

10. Her beauty start-up makes a lipstick shade called “Ask for a Raise.” Like, how f***ing badass?

“My mom never taught me to be waiting for some prince on a white horse to swipe me off my feet.”

why rachel green doesn’t get enough credit

Even though numerous people and Buzzfeed quizzes have told me I’m most similar to her, Rachel isn’t my favorite Friends character (see Chandler Bing). But after re-watching the series for the umpteenth time, I realized that she doesn’t get nearly enough credit.

She didn’t marry Barry because she wasn’t in love with him, even though it would’ve been the safe thing to do and her family wanted her to.

She paid her dues and worked her way up to her dream job.

She was an amazing friend and not afraid to speak her mind. Maybe I should aspire to be more like Rach!!

7 times kimye was relationship goals

If you didn’t know, I’m a big fan of Kim and Kanye’s relationship. Since day one, I’ve said they’re perfect for each other–they’re both so self-obsessed that they don’t need the other to be obsessed with them. Make sense? Anyway, I’ve loved Kanye’s music since eighth grade, so I’ve always been a supporter of his work. And you might be familiar with my fascination with the Kardashian clan, so their marriage was, like, kind of a big deal for me. Here are some of their cutest moments, inspiring this post about #RelationshipGoals.

1. When Kanye looked at his girl like the goddess she is.

2. When Kanye found out Kim had never been to Japan.

3. Don’t forget about that legendary proposal. (And check out that toothpaste-commercial worthy smile).

4. When Kanye didn’t use his only phone call to call Kim and she wasn’t even mad.

5. When they were insanely cute at their Vogue cover shoot.

6. When they were totally honest with each other. #SelfLove

7. When they started a family and got even cuter!!

top 15 of ’15

Since I’m ending this year on such a happy note, I thought I would share my favorite moments from 2015. Happy new year!

1. 21

I actually turned 21 about a week after landing in Amsterdam, where the drinking age is 16. A visit from some of my best friends + Amsterdam nightlife made it a birthday I will never forget.

2. TRAVEL

Four months abroad + eight countries + two continents + empty bank account = still suffering from wanderlust.

3. AMSTERDAM

There is no way to describe how much this place means to me…while I will always and forever love NYC, Amsterdam has a special place in my heart. I grew so much here and can’t wait to go back.

4. MOM + DAD IN EUROPE

My parents coming to visit in Amsterdam was so much fun, and together we also went to Brussels, Berlin, Rotterdam and some other cities in the Netherlands. I loved showing them around (and finally getting to eat something besides ramen).

5. MY FIRST APARTMENT

Special shout out to my amazing mother for helping me move. Carrying furniture up multiple flights of stairs required blood, sweat, tears, and sangria. Cheers to adulthood!

6. SENIOR YEAR

Everything from senior nights, taking (mostly) classes I’m interested in, and a new work-study job have made this school year one of the best.

7. DELISH

An internship where the opportunities were endless. Check out my work.

8. THE KITCHEN

This is definitely a direct result of Delish…my childhood dream job was to be a chef, and working at a food site rekindled that joy. Few things make me happier than creating something delicious & sharing it with people.

9. FRIENDSGIVING

Two of my Fordham friends stayed with my family during Thanksgiving break, and it was so much fun showing them around Newburyport. And getting to spend one of my favorite holidays with all of my favorite people.

10. CHRISTMAS IN NYC

In general, I feel super lucky to live in NYC. And I feel even luckier around the holidays. Around Thanksgiving, the city is decked out in twinkly lights, office buildings show off enormous Christmas trees, and magic is in the air.

11. NEW YEAR, NEW JOB

I’ve already begun my internship for next semester here, and will be working four days a week once break is over. Hard work pays off.

12. DAD

My dad needed open heart surgery, and had the operation shortly after I left for Amsterdam. It was hard to be so far away while he was recovering, but he is healthier than ever and I’m so grateful.

13. PITBULL

My close friends know that I am a shameless Pitbull fangirl. I’ve been trying to see him in concert since high school, and one of my friends won tickets to see him perform at a Microsoft event. #Blessed.

14. NEWBURYPORT SUMMER

Though summer ’15 was pretty uneventful, I got to spend it with some of my high school friends, and finally being 21 was a huge plus. Going to townie bars was pretty priceless, and I was able to bulk up my post-abroad checking account.

15. THE RAM

I decided to finally make an effort and apply for a columnist position at Fordham’s newspaper. I’ve had so much fun being their food writer and can’t wait to continue next semester!
