instagrammable food orders

I post a lot of food photos on Instagram. You may or may not know that I LOVE to eat, and I really enjoy checking out new restaurants and hunting down trendy foods. When I go out to eat with other people, I like to coordinate orders with them so we get a good spread – both for budget/taste practicalities AND Instagram reasons.

Here are some of the prettiest and most photogenic foods to order at any eatery.

Avocado toast

I know, I know. So basic. So overdone. But SO DELICIOUS. And so pretty. You literally can’t go wrong.

A gooey cookie.

Something with melty chocolate, ideally.

The love I have for pizza is truly endless, but I love the stuff even more when the pie is particularly instagrammable. Ask one of your friends to hand model for extra depth.

A smoothie bowl.

Another trendy brunch item that I just can’t seem to quit. Big fan of this one, with candied orange slices and perfectly arranged toppings.

Ice cream.

It’s a lucky coincidence that my favorite ice cream flavor is M&M, which almost always has a colorful, tie-dyed look. Perfect for the ‘gram, and my belly.

an official unoffical ranking of the best cookie flavors

I’m aware that the opportunities for cookie innovation are pretty endless, so in this round-up, I’m sticking with the most classic and typical homemade varieties.

Chocolate Chip

It just doesn’t get better. Buttery batter, melty chocolate, and flakes of sea salt on top…sigh. I love my mom’s classic recipe, but lately I’ve been super into this trendy shortbread version.

Frosted Sugar Cookies

The frosting is key. Also, A LOT of vanilla. Bonus points for crisp sprinkles and bright colors.

Not everyone has the same definition of Cowboy cookies, but in my book, they’re oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with dried cranberries and white chocolate chips, too.

Snicker Doodle

Another standby of my mom’s. I tend to favor chocolate in cookies, but these guys are one of the exceptions. I used to bring Snicker Doodles into elementary school all the time and my classmates went nuts.

Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

Do these have an official name? This is what I’m choosing to call them, but I’m betting you’ve tried these before. They come in last of my favorite cookies because unwrapping all the Hershey’s kisses is extremely annoying, and though they taste AMAZING, they’re awkward to eat in public.

Bonus: Stroopwafels

Not sure if these are technically a cookie, but they’re delicious and I wanted more than one photo for this blog post.

ATTENTION: I am raising money for a bike ride that raises money for Alzheimer’s research. If you donate more than $20, I will personally bake you a dozen of any of these cookies. Click here for more info!

pin-spiration: cookies

I’m not a huge fan of the cold weather, but I love this time of year since I can get working on my winter bod. When going outside requires over three layers of clothing, I start eating soup and baked goods almost exclusively. And my favorite Christmas treat of all? The cookies, DUH!

Whether they’re festively frosted sugar cookies, chocolate-dipped macaroons, or crumbly shortbread, I love ‘ em all. Here, take a mouthwatering look at some of my 2017 holiday cookie inspo.

NYC snack spots

Food is amazing. Food in NYC is super amazing. Any time of day, you can find something delicious to eat in this city. Whether it’s traditional falafel at 4am or $1 pizza, I’ve tried eaten it all. Here are some of my favorite snacks in NYC and where to eat them!

1. The PB Acai Bowl at Juice Generation.

This smoothie bowl is my favorite way to pretend to be healthy. They’re actually super simple to make at home (necessary since twelve bucks a pop makes these a rare treat), and are full of tasty things. Frozen acai, almond milk, and peanut butter are blended into a super thick smoothie that tastes almost like ice cream. It gets topped with strawberries, bananas, cacao, and granola. Oh, and a spoonful of more peanut butter.

2. Green Falafel at Taim.

Honestly, this is the best falafel I’ve ever had in my life. It seems a little fancier at first, but I promise this is the traditional sandwich you’ve been waiting for. In truth, this is more of a meal than a snack, but it’s been a favorite of mine for years–I ate here on a weekend visit to NYC in high school and have never forgotten it.

3. Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies at Levain Bakery.

This famous cookie was part of a dessert round-up I did a while ago, but these cookies give me *life.* Like, I never want to eat any other kind of chocolate chip cookie ever again. It’s a major goal of mine to recreate these enormous cookies, that are somehow perfectly gooey on the inside & crispy on the outside. I’m usually not a fan of nuts in dessert, but somehow Levain makes it work.

4. Tacos at Burrito Box.

This midtown west staple is my go-to when I’m craving Mexican food. It’s crazy cheap, crazy fast, and crazy delicious. It’s the tiniest eatery ever, so take your food to go and hop over to Central Park to enjoy your Tex-Mex perfection. Two tacos come in an order, so share with a friend for a perfect snack. Bonus tip: their guac is to die for.
